Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net early on.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
